American Family DreamBank
Weekly | Year-Round
DreamBank is a one-of-a-kind dream exploration space on the
square in Downtown Madison. The DreamBank experience
includes interactive technology, thought-provoking exhibits, and
inspiring events, all of which are free and open to the general
public. Come by for Family Saturdays each week to see what
activities will educate & inspire your kids!
Art Cart Program
Throughout Week | All Summer
A program of Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, the Art Carts
are a free outdoor art program that brings expert instruction and a
relaxed attitude to art projects at parks, playgrounds and beaches
in Madison and Dane Co communities in the summer. Both
programs offer a variety of individual and group art projects for
children ages 3 & up.
Home Depot Kids Workshop
Monthly | Year-Round
Drop-in (registration preferred) 9 AM to Noon the 1st Saturday
every month for a FREE how-to clinic for kids (recommended ages
5 to 12).Real woodworking projects are often themed around
seasons & holidays. The workshops are intended to encourage
one-on-one time with adults and children, teach tool safety, and
give children the sense of accomplishment. They'll be proud of
their kid-sized "official" orange apron and achievement pin they
take home with their project.
Kids Create at the Top of State
Fridays Weekly | Summer
Madison’s Central BID presents a children’s art and activity series
to take place on
Fridays from 10 AM - 1 PM in The Grove. The
BID will partner with various local organizations to provide an
afternoon of themed art and learning projects for children. This
event will provide children and downtown families with an
afternoon of fun and educational projects. This summer’s theme is
ART, HEART, and SMART. Weekly activities run from June 2, 2017
to August 22nd, 2017.

kids at a special admission of just $3/person every

Lakeside Kids at Monona Terrace
Select Wednesdays | June 21 - Aug 2 *
A short 4-5 week summer program coordinated in partnership
with various community organizations. Lakeside Kids provides
free activities or entertainment on
Wednesdays at 10 AM
during mid-summer for kids ages 4 & up. *See website for 2017
Mad-City Ski Show
Most Sundays | Memorial Day to Labor Day
Mad-City Ski Team has been putting on free water ski shows at
Law Park near the Monona Terrace, for over 50 years! Some
bleacher seats are available, but it is best to bring your blanket or
camp chairs. There are brats, hot dogs and bottled water available
for purchase under the Metcalfe's tent near the ski team staging
area. Junior team show starts at
5:30 PM, with the main show
following at
6 PM. Be sure to check their schedule, as there are
some weeks the team has a show out of town.
Michaels Kids Club
Saturdays Most Weeks | Year-Round
Between 10 AM - Noon most Saturdays, kids 3 and up can enjoy
a quick project and take home a finished masterpiece. Sign up in
store or online, or just drop in. $2 per project, supplies included.
Parent or guardian must remain on premises during the event.
Movies with Madison Parks
Numerous Evenings Throughout the Summer
Both recent popular and classic family-friendly movies are shown
on a big screen at a variety of Madison parks throughout the week,
through the end of September. This is a free activity, bring a
blanket or lawn chairs.
Music in the Park [Outdoor Concerts]
Evenings | Throughout Summer
If you love music, love being outdoors early summer evenings, or
just want to spend quality time with your family, use this handy
schedule of recurring summer concert series. Outdoor music on a
beautiful summer evening allows for great "mom & dad time" - yet
with kids in tow!
Open Gym [Open Play]
Throughout Week | Year-Round
Nearly a dozen places in & around Madison open their facilities
for one to two hours, or open all day for "open gym" sessions,
which may include equipment to play, jump, slide, practice or
gymnastics & tumbling.  Admission fees vary by venue, ranging
from $5 to $10/child+, often depending on age or membership
discounts. (A couple of venues only offer Open Gym during the
school year, indicated on our schedule on this website.)
Rocky Rococo Family Movies
Throughout Week | Year-Round
Rocky's Party Pizzeria's East & West show movies on their big
screen throughout the week, daytimes/eve's/wknds (see location
for times.) Movies are rated 'G' or 'PG', it's a fun way to get out of
the house and enjoy lunch or dinner with a kid-friendly movie in a
family-friendly atmosphere.
Saturday Science at Discovery
Monthly | Year-Round
A monthly series that consists of free science exploration and
education programs aimed at families and learners of all ages.
These drop-in programs are generally from
10 AM - Noon on
the 1st Saturday of the month
, held at Town Center of the
Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery.
Science Thursday at Wingra Boats
Thursdays | June 15th - August 24th
Free Science Thursdays, sponsored by the Dudgeon-Monroe
Neighborhood Association, provides science education to

is a different topic and will include hands-on environmental

1st Saturday of the Month | Year-Round
The FREE program features fun and exciting Wisconsin stories
geared toward families and kids. Activities and crafts bring the
stories to life! Drop in the
1st Saturday of the month at 11 AM.

UW Arboretum Family Programs
Monthly | Year-Round
On the fourth Sunday of most months, we offer a kid-friendly
program that uses nature hikes, stories, crafts and activities to
explore animals, plants and natural phenomena. On the second
Sunday of every month, we offer a family walk with topics that are
especially appealing to youngsters.
